How effective is the combination of your product and ancillary texts?

Film distributes jobs are to advertise a movie by showing it in appropriate places making people want to go and see it. The way that this is done is by showing it in appropriate times and places that the films target audience will be making people more likely to see it. Ways in which film distributes will advertise is by making posters showing the film as they can be placed everywhere and can be made to fit where its wanted to go. Posters can go on billboards along main roads, on buildings, in cinemas, handed out, and so on. Also the trailer is a very important part of advertisement as it gives a taste of what the film will be about. This would be shown at appropriate times so that it hits its target audience. For example it would be shown at cinemas before a film so that they can show it to an audience they think will enjoy it. The film could also be advertised on the internet because nearly every person will go on the internet, this would get the film advertised to a huge audience. By putting it on sites that the target audience would use or by putting it as adverts on YouTube videos. Other popular sites that a film could be advertised on is Facebook and Twitter as these are used by so many people. Advertising a movie a long time in advance will get people excited to see the movie and look forward to it coming out, also this gives the movie time to reach people and make people want to see it, as it would be advertised a lot. Reviews are also important in the ways of advertising, when a film is being advertised the distributes will show all the positive feedback to convince people to go and see the film. By putting positive feedback on show it shows that the film is a good film to those who have watched it. Demographics can be put into categories such as income, race, age and gender. For example if a films target audience is for elderly people then it’s less likely to be advertised on the internet because not many elderly people would go on the internet that much. Alternatives would be books, newspapers on channels that would be considered for older people.

Films are advertised differently depending on the target audience, this also effects the way the film posters look. For example the film “Jennifer’s Body “would primarily be aimed at late teen early adult males. As it is a film about a female killer, that is a cheerleader. This would have caused the poster to look then way it does.

The film is about the character on the front, this is an attractive female who is wearing revealing clothes. This would attract males to watch the film. This poster also shows what age the character is going to be as she is sitting on a desk in front of a chalk board. The film quite also helps to show her age and where the movie will be mainly set. The poster also shows what type of film it will be by telling the audience who wrote it, this could also persuade people to go and see it. If they like the work the writer has done before then they might consider going to see another of their movies.

I have chosen to make my films classification 15 because if it was made into a film it would have child violence, a lot of blood and disturbing scenes in. also as it would be about teenagers there would be foul language. This would be because I would want it to show a realistic representation of the age and personality of teenagers these days and also a realistic representation of murder and the cases that come with it. My film poster shows the detective behind the murderer because in the film it shows him to always be one step behind finding out who the murderer is. However the film would only discreetly give away who the murderer is yet my poster shows who it is. This is because it shows it’s a female making it unique and appealing to a specific audience. The killer is in the middles of my poster because the main focus of the film will be her. The detective is also on the front cover because the rest of the focus will be on him and how he tries and solves the murder cases. The quite at the top is “never trust innocents” I chose to have this because females are mainly shown as being delict and innocents yet the female is the murderer in my film. She hides behind innocents which makes people trust her, I feel the quite was an appropriate quote to go with the movie. My poster is dark as it gives the poster a feel of mysteriousness which is how the movie would go as the detective is trying to find out who the murderer is. The most amount of light is on the main female character as the movie would be about why she started killing, she is the main focus to why the movie is the way it would be. The value of being on a film poster is that it would advertise the film farther, as movie loves would see it straight away also anyone who goes and gets a magazine would see it as it would be with all the other magazines. It advertises the film greatly as for an issues it is the biggest part of the magazine. My film magazine cover shows only the detective as he also plays a huge part of the film, the trailer might not show that well but by putting him on the poster and having him as the only image on my magazine cover it shows that he has great significant on my movie. The colours I have used on my magazine cover are colours that are usually used on the type of genre the magazine has, this also attracts the reader’s because they stand out against each other and also by showing what genre of magazine it would be.

I based my poster off of this poster because I like the how the want much on there and the background colour faded in to a lighter colour the farther in to the picture it had gotten, this put focus onto the picture in the centre. I also liked the layout of this poster, with little writing at the top, and the writing at the bottom hardly noticeable, this again gives the main image more focus. I made my poster the way I did so that the audience would know who the main characters were also to put them as the main focus on the poster.

I used this magazine cover as inspiration because I thought it stood out which is what I wanted my poster to do. The main image covered the magazine title and the title of the film stood out because it was so big, I used things such as them on my poster to make the image and the films name stand out. I made my magazine cover the way I did so that again it would stand out, also because I liked the way it looked the way it does. I feel it represents an actual horror magazine.
